Go to the link below, and it will show you a picture of what you have. That mysterious cable is the shifter for your Sherman Step-Up Transmission. Pulling that knob gives you 3 more forward gears and one more reverse. All speeds will be faster than your 'normal' gears. Withe the regular tranny in neutral and your foot on the clutch, try pulling the knob out gently and see if you can engage the Sherman. If the cable seems hard to move, spray it with some penetrant and wait a bit. If you break the cable you will have to have one made up for you as they are not available anymore. If it is leaking water in through the cable hole, I would just goo it up good with RTV Silicone and keep an eye on it. Very usefull for speeding from one field to another down the road. :-)
