I've been concerned for several years about the "foreign versus U.S. made" subject. I've never really found a satisfactory answer. What about the U.S. brand cars that are built overseas? (pay profits to U.S. company, labor to foriegn countries?)What about the foreign brand cars built in the U.S.? (pay labor to U.S. people, and profits to Honda, Toyota, Mercedes, etc.?) I always wanted to make as much per hour as I could when I worked for other companys. I always wanted to pay as little as I could when I bought anything. I have been a member of 2 different labor unions in past years, and don't fault labor for wanting a good wage and benefit package. I meet many fine tractor folks who worked and retired from large U.S. manufacturers. I only wish I had as good a retirement as lots of them (you) have. I'm 47 years old, self-employed (small machine shop), and at this point, can't even see retirement. These wages and benefits, along with counterproductive work rules, and sometimes high company profits, makes it impossible to compete with developing countries on the sales floor. If trade restrictions are the answer, that necessitates "us" paying the higher prices at the cash-register. How much of this are we willing to pay? If we don't want to import oil, how much are we willing to pay for alternatives? As I said at the begining of this, I don't have the answers, just lots of questions. It seems that sometimes my head opens up and this drivvel just pours out! Excuse my manners! Have a good'un!
