Kruser - I'm near Carbondale. I worked in construction for IDOT District 9 for 33 years.
I wondered about the piling up in your area. We almost always used H-pile driven to refusal down here. Only once remember using metal shell piling, and never saw concrete piling driven, but always wanted to. Timber for temporary stuff. Some of the H-pile drives deep here, but one pier only drove 15 feet to refusal. Had to cable it off to keep it upright until we could get the beams pinned.
I miss the work, but not the traffic. Good pictures!!
