I don't know that powershifts are that inefficient. DOn't have my book with me, but I think the Allis powershift and mechanical 7060 had nearly identical pull ratings in Nebraska. That said, a PS gives the benifit of more gears to choose form without clutching. If I am pulling a big load up a big hill and I run out of engine with a regular tranny, I may be in deep trouble. With a powershift, just keep downshifting. Same for a sticky spot in the field. Gets wet, grab another gear. With a regular tranny, you may get stuck. I've run both and I like a powershift better.
