Had a cow last Sunday who got her head stuck in the same slot of the feeder wagon as another cow (not sure who was in 1st) and was pretty close to being hung to death on the wagon, as Dad and I ran around trying to free both of their heads. (we were working 20 feet from the cow yard, and heard the stressed beller at what couldn't have been too long after it happened)
Finally got their heads unstuck, but the one cow that was being hung didn't get up. Dad was afraid she pinched a nerve or broke something, so he called the truck to come get her the on Monday morning as she still hadn't gotten up.
The truck came, backed up to the gate and the driver got his gun from the cab. Just as he started walking towards her with the gun, she decided she wasn't gonna go without a fight and jumped up. Dad apologized but driver said that it wasn't a problem and left without her in the back. Dad brought her in milked her out as she hadn't been milked for over a day now. He made a small pen outside with some extra gates and she's been isolated since then, but she's getting around quite well now. Still some swelling on her neck from the struggle, but she's eating fine, moving fine, and milking fine.
Never had one cut it so close before deciding to get up though.... Another 20-30 seconds and she wouldn't have gotten a second chance....
