I live in an antique colonial built on the highest ground for several miles but I am still having to pump out the cellar. Thankfully, I installed a barn drain many years ago or I would have an indoor swimming pool where I don't need it.
I remember working as a contractor at the Blackstone Valley Regional Waste Facility. Had a bunch of equipment in one of the 250' dia clarifiers. Management threatened to send excess flow, after a storm, into the tank. I countered with a contract adjustment that would have doubled the price. They decided to dump the untreated sewage in the river.
I also worked on a number of US Corps of Engineers Flood Control Dams. This afternoon I tried to access the reservoir levels but the website now requires a password. They have always been paranoid about a sabotage incident during high water but they are getting silly now. Everybody knows they are holding water today.
