Ya, the taller 6 volt batterys are right up to the top. I could, the last time I bought a 6 volt battery, get the shorter battery at Rural King.
I have put a chip board like poster paper over the top of the battery and then cut a old inter tube the size of the battery and put that over the paper.
I bought a taller battery box from OEM parts but after finding the shorter batterys never put it on any thing.
