This is for any row width. Any closer spacing than about 6" will be cause for problems and better spacing is about 8", some varieties even 10", some will depend on variety but that would be a good starting point, Some seed is bread only for picking and will not work good with a sheller and other varieties are good for sheller but not a picker and those are usually a fixed size ear and for picking chose a corn that does not require a high population and plant it farther apart so it will go through the rolls better and also a loose husk type of corn, not a tight husk as most bread for shelling are.
