Sometimes we can interpret the wrong intentions out of a phrase. On the TV makeover shows when they say OMG they are calling God to witness their excitement and joy so I can't see where God's name is being used in vain in that circumstance. Using those words during an angry fit is another story.
When I was a kid we didn't even think of using a four letter word, not even while sorting hogs. We didn't even use the word he// as the name of the place we might end up if we sin.
