1) A mag can have a weak/impulse starting spark because the impulse spring is weak but once running it can have a normal very strong spark. Its common that a hand crank mag tractor can be a bear to start (due to a weak impulse spring) but if pull started it runs fine, because then the spring is out of the equation, its no longer winding up and tripping.
2) It can have BOTH a weak impulse starting spark AND a weak running spark due to perhaps bad points or coil etc.
3) Its possible for the rotor magnet to weaken with age which causes BOTH a weak start impulse spark andddddddd a weak running spark. A mag shop can recharge it if that happens.
4) The condition of the points is critical on a magneto. Often non sparking can be cured simply by buffing the points.
