We did that every year for 15 years to swath mixed grain. The crimper drive belt has to be tied up out of the way so it's drive pulley doesn't wear the belt. I can't imagine how removing the crimper could improve hay drying??? Adjusting the discharge chute width or height will make more difference. b.t.w you can save a lot of wear and drag by adjusting the header lift springs to carry some weight. Instead of full header weight riding on the skid plates.
