As with most projects. Some tinkerer tears it apart, looses pieces and gives up. Finding all the sheet metal is going to be a challenge for you. Only way you can come in under $12,500 purchase + repairs is "make it run" but not a "restoration". Is to find another 840 tractor cheap, often without the elevator scraper. Then mix and match worn parts to " just make it run". Then apply a coat of paint. Count $20,000 if you seriously get into bearings, seals, driveline, tires, electrical, injection, hydraulics etc to "restored " condition.

Today's Featured Article - Oliver 550 Purchaser Checklist - by Greg Sheppard. Pound for pound the 550 is better than anything I've seen.
