Correct dyno operation

I have been fortunate enough to have access to a dyno to check my tractors.
Directions I were given:
1. Set factory RPM on tractor.
2. Hook up dyno (warm oil to operating temp.
3. Engage pto and apply drag until pto rpm to 540.
4. Read gauge for HP. I followed these directions on an Allis wd45 diesel, turned 52.5 hp @ 540 pto rpm and immediately dropped when appyling more drag.
I then put an Oliver 88 diesel on it, turned 35 hp @ 540 pto rpm and climbed to 57 when I applied more drag.
Is this correct operation, and on the oliver how many hp does it have, 35 @ 540 or 57 when drag aggressively applied?
My goal is to become a little more competitive at the pulls.
Thanks for any input on this subject.
