gotta chime in also.. There are some cars that require """"special""" oil.. ie the vw pump duse diesel engine requires a 505.01vw spec oil that is very very very hard to get. This oil formula was created due to early cam failures due the the skinny lobes because a pumpduse fires the injector off a cam lobe. This would be an valid example of why you would need to bring your own oil. some fords require 20-w50 again not rare, but not just everywhere.
A lot of the quick in and out lube shops may not carry but a couple grades of oil. I dont like bulk oil shops because one barrel of oil does not necessarily meet all vehicle's needs or specifications.
In Nancy's case, a good delo or delvac, or rotella hd diesel rated oil will do just fine, if they have it. If not, I would go elsewhere.
