If the bucket cylinder has an internal leak most times it can be pinpointed by holding the lever against rollback for a while and feeling the cylinder fittings for heat. If there is no oil bypassing the packing or rod oring the cylinder will stay cool. In systems that use two cylinders this can pick out the bad one without disassembling both. Lift cylinders can be diagnosed the same way but will not leak down any more than enough to allow the oil to transfer across the damaged packing then pressure will build on both sides of the cylinder as the path for oil to flow back to sump on both ports is closed, once the pressure equalizes on each side the cylinder it becomes a simple displacement cylinder and if pressure readings were taken they would be equal on both sides of the cylinder and driftdown will stop until the oil has a return path, simply pulling the lever into the raised position with the engine off will allow the return path the oil needs to then leak down past the packing.
