Texas prison farms were self sustaining till some federal judge got involved... Many grew vegetables, some made soap, other made license plates, vehicle and machinery repair, and they all shared and sold off the excess for a profit. They maintained, tractors, trucks, care for horses, cows, and raised tons of vegetables... Sold off tons to El Monte and other canners.
now they get cable tv, air conditioning, and cost the tax payers a fortune as they lay in bed all day.
