Glad you didn't get cut. I will probably get bashed for saying the following.
My daughter had the same thing happen, employee left and they didn't fill job. Everyone had else had to divide the job and daughter was complaining. I told her that if they could do it and still get job done with same quality work, then that person wasn't needed to begin with. She said it can't be done. That was a year ago and work is still getting done, no sloppy work being done, and no body working over time. I still tell her I was right and she still says it wasn't fair. I tell her if they had that person back, what would she do now. You would have time to kill or else you all were goofing off all along and all she will say is hummm.
Now don't get me wrong, if quality of work was going to pot or if folks were required to work off clock or something, THEN boss should be fired.
