If it's not totally collapsed, you have some hope.
Take it off - the other end too - and put some penetrating oil on it. Let it soak.
Then whack on it. A lot. To collapse it. Once it moves, it will be good.
It's possible it got twisted, and will never be useable.
If it's collapsed all the way short, you have problems. Very hard to pull them apart. You can whack on it & hope it will collapse a tiny bit & come free, but it's a trouble. Cut the shield off & heat it, see if that works, then buy a new shield.
