Do the urecia become very soft as they become dead ripe or do they stay somewhat firm? My inlaws who are in their late 80s and early 90s tell of a type when they were kids that was pretty sour untill dead ripe and from the sound of it sloppy soft. Said they didn't get many the racoons or possoms (sp) took most before they were really good for eating. We have been getting some from a fella down the street here in coastal SC that are firm and semi sweet and seem to get sweeter as they get softer. The wife just loves them and we don't know what variety they are.
