Put one in the Girlfriends 02 Explorer last year. Wasn't terribly difficult, but it was an off brand that had no online wiring diagrams. Had to go to somebody elses website to get the wiring colors for the truck. Probably spent 4 or 5 hours on it, but I soldered everything and did a nice job of it. The "professionally" installed one in my car is a mess.
It ended up randomly starting the truck about 3 times before I pulled it out.
She's got an '03 now and she just ordered another starter yesterday. At least she got a Viper this time.
Also if your car has a chip in the key, you will need a little gizmo to fool the computer into thinking the key is in the ignition. Can't remember what is was called, but it cost around $75.
