I have an acreage with a septic system. The city limit is right at my property line. I had notice from the city a number of years back that my property and a large number of other acres were now included in their sanitary sewer district. If a city sewer line is ever run in front of my property, I will be required to hook on to their line. My share of the assessment to hook on would be right at $2000 which at the time seemed high but now it would be a bargain compared to a new septic system. I don't know how they would force me to hook on but I am sure I would have to pay the assessment along with my real estate taxes. At home growing up, everyone had an outhouse at one time. The well for our drinking water was 40 ft. deep and maybe 75 ft. away. It was a small town with small lots and everyone's was that way. Was always good tasting water though.
