Drove it for 2 years with the 6.9, now it's repowered with a newer 7.3.
The 6.9 shouldn't use the same fuel filter as the 7.3, at least mine didn't.
I never had a leakdown issue such as yours, but, when I bought the truck it had a leak on the return lines, and on the lines on the injection pump. I believe your feed line from fuel filter to inj. pump have rubber "seals" on them.. that was another of my leaks.. And I had one loose injector line.
The return line kit was something like $50 from NAPA.. and I opted to spend quite a bit of money for the socket that you can use to tighten the lines on the injector pump while it's still on the engine (as opposed to removing the assembly)
Another thing I did was I installed a "spin on" filter base and a water separator filter, as someone had removed the factory water trap and replaced it with a sediment bulb from a tractor!!
I need to get down to the shop, but when I'm there I'll try to remember to look, I think I have some of the 6.9 fuel filters still on the shelf, and I don't see me using them anymore, so if you'd like em, I could toss em in a box and send em to you.. I know they're NAPA filters.
