The probate office at the courthouse is where we pay for our license plates in Alabama. When the staff that works there is not certain it sort of leaves you in limbo, some of the staff suggested I purchase license plates just to be on the safe side, but I don't beleive in forking out the cash to the state if its not needed or required. One of my friends said the only reason he tagged his equipment trailer was because he used it for business to cut yards on the weekends and he had got a business license for his lawn service so he figured he better tag his trailer. I don't operate a business and my trailers may only get used 2 or 3 times a year, would hate to be wasting fees on them just to be sitting around, the expense of keeping tires on all of them is a killer in itself but I've got them when they are needed and never have to ask to borry one from somebody. I realize alot of you will be posting your states laws but I really want some clearity on the Alabama interpretation of tagging equipment/utility trailers.
