I was sorta surprised myself as Ive never heard myself play other then bein right there lol. When I watched it I was trying to keep time but I really noticed my missed notes and the few stutters when I tried to hit n slide down grrrrrr. Of course when in a Jam the bass helps keep the timing and count
I took a very few lessons (been at it 3.5 yrs now) and that Scruggs 4 note forward roll I got out of a book but then An old friend who had played 50 years taught me to alternate BOTH my thumb AND index (index hits 2nd then 3rd string every other time) as it gives it more sound. The Thumb as you see hits the melody while the middle n index roll.
My son didnt teach me Banjo but taught me to "listen" to the rhythm when in a jam to keep time and that I didnt have to hit all the right notes JUST DONT HIT ANY WRONG NOTES
My son Chad has played 22 yrs hes the REAL Musician, he plays two back to back gigs tonight on Beale St in Memphis, Superior Bar 5 to 8 then Flying Saucer 9:30 to 1 Were gonna see him a bit but tomorrow we head farther South
