Adirondack case guy. I volunteered I would have been drafted anyway. My wife and I dated all through high school, matter of fact we never dated anyone else. On Prom night we made love for the first time. We also made my oldest son. Money was tight so I joined right after I graduated high school. I was very naive but I still thought, still do, serving was my duty. My wife and I married right before I left for basic. She was an angle on earth. She raise my kids and stood by me serving. She stayed and lived with my family while I was on active duty. My three oldest kids where all born while I was on active duty. I only saw my middle son born.
Now don"t think that I am whining. The US Army was good to me. I was able to get an education because of the Army. I also was taught how to be a better man by serving. My only regret is how hard it was on my wife. We also lost time together. She died from cancer in 1985 at the age of 35. I still think of her every day. I have been lucky in life. I remarried in 1991. I have two more children, son 19 and daughter 14.
I have just always done what I felt was right and honorable.
