had a 302 play that joke ,,,thermostat ,and head gasket , never could seem to get it to take all the coolant it was supposed to take , like there was a air lock somewhere....OR WATER WAS GOING OUT THE EGAUST as i DROVE ? , btw , if you did have normal heat and just did a tranny split, and a pegged hot temp , the wire might be pinched between engine parts /tranny ,,. pair of young nephews were all bent out of shape ,, came here sheepishly proud of their clutch job repair , and were on their maiden voyage LOL , stopped here wanting water cause the motor was hot., i asked why they drained radiator to change a CLUTCH ? LOL ,,. said they didnt???,. and it didnt take much water and was still HOT !?!?? . wth ? let me See that thing ? ,, found the temp gauge pinched , , just had to loosen bolts pull out flattened wire retighten ,, TRUCK RAN COOL then ,, LOL ,. didn't ruin their mechanical drive , last nite they helped me set a 391 in the grain truck , had it in place in 45 minutes ...
