We sell them with our residential Skystream wind turbines. We use a Vantage Pro 2 to access marginal wind sites, and the Vantage Vue comes with our turbine kits. If you are looking to monitor soil moisture and temp or humidity in a green house, buy the Pro. If you are just a weather buff, the Vantage Vue is fine. I do recommend that you buy the "Weather Link" with proper hdw. for your computer. This way you will be able to graph and print any weather data you could want. That's a $165 dollar option. Do not buy a cabled unit, get the wireless versons. A vantage Vue would be $395 plus the Weather link and shipping. You can fab your own tower or mount it on a structure as you mentioned, but bare in mind that the structure will vary the wind direction and speed. A tower(flagpole) in an open area is best. The graph shows temp and wind today 3/2, and the other pic is showing electrical production from my Mariah, with the wether data screen behind it. Notice in the upper RH corner is the circular graph showing wind speed. The last pic. is of my Vantage Vue mounted on our garden building adjacent to the Mariah wind turbine. E-mail is open.
