We used to have some geese around the place about 30 years ago, and they make pretty good watch dogs. But we had a pretty good watch dog that was a dog, Elsa. Those geese did not like Elsa and when ever they got the change, they would tear into her, and naturally she'd defend herself, and that's the part our mother always caught, Elsa defending herself, and poor Elsa would get whacked with the broom, "Elsa, you let them geese alone", and she'd run hide. Elsa never went after them geese unprovoked (pecked and bitten). Everyone had witnessed it but Mom. One time we were not at home and obviously the geese went after Elsa one time too many, and Mom wasn't home to save them that time. Dead geese and feathers when we got home. I never missed them. "Good girl, Elsa" pat, pat, pat from me.
