I get very well cared for at our local NAPA. Not as cheap as the "big box" auto stores, but I have much better luck with reman alternators, starters, and seems like anything electrical at NAPA.
As for filters, 2 times a year they have "filter sale".. and as an example, the air filter lists $66 for my pickup.. Filter sale it costs about $15.00.. Usually costs me much less than list, but it's about half price of what I'd pay everyday during the sale.
Again, I'm really happy with the service I get.. And they're pretty good with ag applications too.
