I would disagree with your view. There was absolutely no reason to drop the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Japan was thoroughly defeated before the bombs were dropped. Japan had been trying to surrender for some time through neutral countries. Their only stipulation to surrender was to keep their emperor. Here is what Eisenhower had to say:"The Japanese were ready to surrender and it wasn't necessary to hit them with that awful thing ... I hated to see our country be the first to use such a weapon," Eisenhower said this in 1963.
