I dont know much about the Ill. side of the river now but it used to be a farily rough place. I wouldnt spend the night in downtown St. Louis.Crime is bad day or night. Lot of ganges shooting at each other esp. at night. If you go west on I44 to bowels Ave past 270 and the Meramec River about a mile there is a nice motel and also some nice restaurants at that exit and the next exit west by about a mile (Hwy141) and no crime. There is hotels (2) at 141 also. I think Dury inn is one of the chains.
