When I went to survival training, USN type, pilots. EGLIN AFB, IN THE SWAMPS of NW fl. The instructors told us how to catch snakes for food. Offered to trade us a can (about 5 inches square, 18 inches long,shiney tin, USN markings) if we could catch some live deadly snakes for the survival training exhibit. We had a cadet, from LA , a cajun in our class. He spoke French and cajun. Named Lennie Melancon, think Mel-lawn-son. So we all went snake hunting. Lennie came into camp taht afternoon with a gunny sack pretty full. The instructors said what's in there?" He dumped out about 30 water moccasins and coppermouths, and a few eastern diamondback rattlers. Everyone in the camp was running, students and instructors, This cat got his stick and put them back in the sack, and we got 10 lbs of SPAM. After NO FOOD for three days, spam is like a ribeye!
