If turning the adjustment screw makes no difference, then either the carb is still dirty,or you have a vaccuum leak. Did you use a new gasket between the carb and the manifold? A carburetor is much more complex that most folks realize, and a carb that is 60+ years old will require more work than just a bowl gasket and new needle valve.
