Smoky diesel...

I'm looking at an 826 that smokes (I believe quite a bit, haven't acutally seen it (takes away the credibility that I'm "looking" at an 826, doesn't it?)). The owner and the middle man believe it acts like a bad injector. How much would that be to repair? Could it be something other than injector that causes it to "smoke?" Still runs, works fine, but smoking is the only real problem. Am I at serious (like, over 1000 bucks) risk of serious problems if I buy the tractor? I left the post open enough so hopefully some people who know diesels of other models can input. Thank you!!!
