Tim-- I have farmed with a 706 german diesel since 1970 and a 826 german diesel since 1980. I still have both of these tractors and feel I have had good service out of them. The neg. thing about these tractors is they are hard to start in the cold. My 826 has started better than the 706, but you need to know how to start them. These tractors seem to smoke more when they are first started and I think they always smoke while they sit around ideling, I have nener liked that. When you work them the clean right up and I feel they smoke less than others on a pull. I have had good service and like to run either one also they are very fuel efficent. I used them for main tractors for years, and for lighter loads now. I would think 3000 would be a good buy on a 826 but it is hard to say what is wrong. I would have a mechanic look at it to be sure that is the best in the long run and safer for both the seller and the buyer. CBL In Iowa
