I spent the entire summer fixing salt damage on my 96 F150.Put 20 feet of 1/8 x5 steel on the chassis,Replaced the spring hangers and both fuel tanks.2 box cross menbers were rotted away so I made new ones.Chassis crossmember in front of the rear tank was rotted with sharp edges,fuel lines and power wires were laying on the sharp crossmember.Ford wont sell a new one, junk yard wanted 50 bucks for a used one.I built a new one with steel I had on hand.I drive the truck 4000 miles a year.Haul lumber to build picnic tables for sale,haul grain, hay and fertilizer.I pull a small boat trailer.The truck runs and looks good but I am looking for another truck.Next truck wont be a Ford.3/4 ton Chevy or GMC looks better to me. The Ford engine is famous for spitting spark plugs.In any case put any truck you are interested in up on a lift and look it over close.
