There has been some discussion lately of whether retorqueing cylinder heads is really necessary. Had the head off my Farmall H about 3 weeks and 4hours running time ago.Today I decided to see whether it was still torqued at 70 foot pounds. Let it run for a few minutes to warm up and then took the valve cover and rocker shaft off. The torque had decreased to a low 55 foot pounds to a high of 65 foot pounds. I retorqued everything back to 70 foot pounds for three times around.
Think from now on I will retorque head studs after replacing head gaskets. Joe
