In 1968-70, I raced AMA class C flat track, indoor short track, short track (1/4 mile), and half mile in Iowa, Nebraska,Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico. There was an occasional broken leg or arm, but there were several good flat track riders killed on the street that I knew during that period of time, mostly by people running stop signs etc when the riders were road testing customers bikes they were working on. At 65, I still often ride and enjoy dirt bikes daily, and occasionally ride on the street. I have survived on the street so far, because of or in spite of, believing that every other vehicle or animal on the street could kill me. Vigilance is necessary whether you are on two wheels or 4 or 18 wheels.
