Anybody remember that comic back in the day? Illustrations of life's little frustrations and annoyances. Jimmy Hatlo did it from reader's tips, and acknowledged them at the bottom with "A tip o' the Hatlo hat to ..." Google Jimmy Hatlo.
Thought of it last night, after my adventures in buying a mitre saw table at Sears. Got an email from Sears- lots of stuff on sale. Checked, just for the heck of it, and sure enough, they had the one I wanted on sale. Regularly $130, for 116 bucks. I could pick up at the local store, no charge. And they had one there in stock. So I'm thinking, why fuss with the on-line thing, just go over after work and get it there.
So I do- they finally found it in the back, but when they went to ring up, it was $130. It told them about the email, they said "Oh, you have to buy it on line to get that price." "But I'll be getting this one right here?" "Yep, that very one. Here, we have a kiosk where you can get on the website and buy it online." So I go through the rigamorole, and leave a semi-happy man.
Get home, get the mail- there's a circular from the "Craftsman's Club". As I'm headed for the house with it, I say to myself, "Whattya wanna bet?" Sure enough, there's the exact same one, for 100 bucks. In the store.
