That thing is no joke, the photo gives you scale. I agree with JD Seller, but with how they stalk their pray, you miss seeing him, that is one nasty jack in the box popping out of the bush. If he has the drop on you, there won't be much of a chance to do something about it. I have to wonder how much one of those weighs, if we had those around here, I'd NEVER take a walk around the land when leaves are on the trees and brush, way too much cover, even if armed. DEC took out a 200 lb bear across the road a few years back, they must have had a similar concern with peoples safety. The next largest animal we get on occasion is moose, one of those cats would have a field day with the deer around here right now, there's 30+ roaming around the house this winter.
