Most of these horse people are really funny but there are a few that are really sharp when it comes to hay. I was baling some grass hay one day when a white caddy drove right out into the field and pulled right up to a loaded wagon of hay sitting there. A WELL dressed lady got out and started looking the hay over as we came up the field. She walked over and I stopped and got off to see what she wanted. She walked over to the wind row bent down and grabbed it up some and smelled it when turned to me and said 'That's good hay" and let me see a bale on the wagon. My boy set a bale down and she grabbed it and picked it up, "Perfect weight" then she did something I have never seen a woman do, She straiten her hand out and drove it in the cut side of the bale and pulled some out. She looked at me a smiled and said I'll take it all and all you can get baled like this. I said "How do you know its for sale"? She looked at me and said Anyone who can bale hay like this knows they can sell it quick, So I am going to buy it now. How many bales you going to have? About 400. Well I'll give you $6.00 a bale and a $1 and bale to deliver it and stack it in the barn. Cash only before I unload a bale. Good enough for me and handed me a card with her address on it and said I'll be expecting in about 2 1/2 hours so don't be late and she left. 2 hours later we rolled in with 4 wagon loads and started to unload when she came to the barn and ask how many did I have? 411 bales, She pulled at cash and started counting as the boys started unloading it. Her husband an two sons came in and started to get some of this hay to feed there horses with. She stopped them dead in there tracks and told them you cant feed that hay yet, That hay has to go threw a good heat before you can feed it so don't get any ideas about feeding it till I tell you to! OK. They went on about there way. About that time an older guy walked in the barn and she brought him over to look at the hay. She said "Dad have you ever seen hay look this good? Yep a couple of times over the years. He turned to me and said you cut this with a rotary sigh didn't you? Yes sir I did. He smiled and walked away. She knew her stuff about hay for horses and what they really needed to eat. I sold her hay for the next 4 years till they moved away. She was a horse lady that knew what she was doing and how to care for her horses. Bandit
