My father had a forge in his shop, and he loved to do blacksmithing and make stuff out of metal. However, everything he made was either bolted or riveted together. He never showed the slightest interest in welding.
Even when I was in Voc Ag class in high school and a local welder dealer left a demonstrator arc welder at our place for a couple of weeks hoping I'd buy it. While I had it, I caught up on all the repair welding I could, but my dad had zero interest in it.
