Well since I sold my 2 Deeres, I had a little $$$ burning a hole in my pocket so I thought I would go look at another that was for sale. 1995 Model 6300 power quad, seller claimed it was "field ready". At first glance I had my doubts, one rear tire almost bald and low on air...other had obviously sat flat for awhile looking at the severe checking in the key area...and a corroded rim covered with paint. Front tires checked, braiding showing on hydraulic hoses, one steering cylinder with a significant leak, tail lights smashed and held together with duct tape, front grilles flopping and...someone had cut off a longer hood and it was just sitting on top, nothing to hold it on! OK, now onto better things. Steering wheel pod just flops up and down, can't adjust the seat, open ashtray and it is full of fuses??? (probably explains why cover is off of the fuse box). I start it up and it roars to life (throttle was set wide open for some reason). I take it out on the road to check the gears...1500 rpm, tractor surges randomly (sounds like it is in the tranny). I put it thru the ranges and can't get it to stay in range D...so I decide its not for me. I shut it off and tell the seller it pops out of D range..he says it's never done that for him. So I tell him to show me how he keeps it in, so he gets in the seat and I hang on in the doorway of the cab...he opens the throttle wide open and slams it into D range and pops the clutch...and it stays in, so he says you have to have these tractors revved up! Then he slams it into all the ranges, popping the clutch in each (good thing I was hanging on). Then he idles it down a little and jams it into D range....and it pops out. I told him I didn't need a tractor with transmission issues (actually I would never buy a tractor from a guy that treated one like this). He says whatever, jumps in his car and speeds off. Strange! I was fortunate it was only a 300 mile trip.....
Anyone else have stories of a seller with a short fuse??

Today's Featured Article - Restoring a John Deere 2010 Diesel Tractor - by Jim Nielsen. Following seven years working in California's Silicon Valley, my wife, baby son and I moved back to Australia to retire. We bought a small 'farm' of about 50 acres near Bendigo, in the state of Victoria. I soon found that it would be very useful to have a tractor around the place for things such as grading our long drive and brush-hogging the fields. I was also embarking on planting 1000 eucalyptus trees, and hence I would need a ripper, small disk plow, sprayer etc. to get these things accompli
