Simple mistake? Don't bet on it. And it may have hurt, as others have said via a bridge collapse damage to a road not designed for that type of weight. Bet most DOT cops sleep very well at night know that THEY DID THIER JOB. They don't get up in the morning and think "gee, I wanna do the DOT thing today and ignore other crime". Thing is these laws that they enforce were passed because people were getting hurt and or killed, bridges and roads torn up without regard because of profit. People still try that kinda thing all the time. So you have cops assigned to traffic, or DOT. If you want more cops going after drug dealers and violent criminals either get the average person to obey traffic laws, truckers to stay within DOT rules freeing those officers up for other duties OR pay more taxes to put on more cops!
