There are more than a few methods of cleaning a gas tank. 1. Diluted muratic acid (cleans well but you'll have near instant flash rust) 2. Commercial tank cleaner from POR 15(I used this in mine and did well with a couple of pounds of BBs and shaking the tank. or you can used nuts and bolts) 3. Take your tank to a radiator shop and see if they'll clean it out for you. I used POR 15 tank sealer on my 850 and it has been 6 years with no problems. Recently did a motorcycle tank with a Caswell Tank sealer kit. Seems to work well. It is a clear epoxy which means it seals the metal from any O2 and stops/prevents rust. One thing about a tank sealer, if the tank's metal is thin, it will add support. Check the web and you'll find many suggestions on how to clean your tank. You'll also find the various sealers. One thing that is very important to remember, cleaning and preparation is the key to a good seal.
