Well, I would say both fellows you talk to are both correct, depending on the tractor. Some tractors can be towed while in neutral without harm, older Fords, Fergusons, Longs and Zetors. But tractors like John Deers, possible Case and AC should be left in gear or in a Tow position if available. These tractor have transmission oil pumps that must be in gear and pumping or you will destroy the transmission. I would not tow a tractor at all. Always put tractor on trailer to move. If you don't have one, rent one or get someone to haul it for you.
