I would also agree that it's an aftermarket attachment. Though the patent was pending at the time your wheel was manufactured, it may have gone through at some point & a number or numbers were granted. I don't have the time at the moment, but I would suggest you do a patent search for it. It's free & usually fruitful. I found it helpful when I needed to figure out how the Yetter trashboards mounted on my plow. Also found a ton of very interesting info researching patents for IH hay conditioners. There are usually links on the page you are looking at, that will pertain to other patents relevant to your search, etc. You can search by applicant, too. That's how I found out about my grandfather's patents.
