We just came back from the Michigan Upper Peninsula. I am still building a cabin in the woods near Whitefish Point on the east side near where the Edmund Fitzgerald sank. We took a ride through some woods go get to the "ghost town" of Vermillion. That area used to be called "shipwreck coast." Sort of an old light house there. No tower. Just a house overlooking Lake Superior with a big light upstairs. built in 1877. Owned by the State and has virtually no money. Some people are trying to raise some bucks to restore some of the buildings. Right on the shore of Lake Superior overlooking Canada. To our surprise, when we walked in, we could hear an engine running. Ends up some people bought a Ford tractor and mower to help clean the place up a little. The guy on the tractor is retired and working there for free as a volunteer. In fact, he was going to sleep there that night. Just when I walked up to him on the Ford tractor, it died. I had no tools and could not help him out. I saw a coil on the front of the engine so I guess it is a 9N? Kind of nice to see a local effort to save the place along with a low-budget tractor - instead of raising taxes and wasting them. When we left we walked near right up to a wolf. Kind of took me by surprise. I think the wolf felt the same way. He (or she) was calm, as compared to how a coyote acts when surprised.
