Fireants-Is there a way?

This post may be so dumb but I have an idea for getting rid of fireants. I don't have any knowledge of whether it will work or not so what is your opinion.
The general idea is to take a portable generator and rig electric wires to two metal rods about 5 feet long. Have an electrical breaker switch of some type mounted somewhere. Drive up to the fireant mound and push one rod down the middle of the mound with the other grounded nearby. Hit the switch and electrocute the devils. Of course, assuming they can be electrocuted. I realize the safety concerns.
Is there a possibility this could be made to work or is it just one of my ideas that I need to forget???????
