John Deere snowmobile like a diesel?

Howdy folks. Sort of off topic, but a stange happening. I was running my 1980 John Deere Trailfire 440. Running good. We were riding for a few hours. About half way into our journey, I found that my killswitch wouldn't work. I told my brother, and he said to pull the choke if I had to stop it. Ok. Must be the switch is going bad. We we finished and drove it onto the trailer. Killswitch was out, so we popped the hood to pull the spark plug wires off. But...she kept on running good, there was no effect on the engine! I've been running regular 87 gas with Honda Racing synthetic premix oil at 50:1. We used the choke to shut it down. How is this explained? Note-I had it idling for about 15 minutes at 3000 RPMs getting my brother unstuck, and the plugs didn't foul, and no other effect on the engine. Forget Polaris, Ski-Doo, and Arctic Cat, and buy a John Deere! Lol, just kidding.
